Michael Powell tribute
The Aboriginal Launceston website was devised and implemented by Dr Michael Powell. He died six months after its launch in July, 2021. It is his major historical legacy.
Michael was a once-in-a -lifetime teacher for students at the University of Tasmania. He was also a prolific researcher, writing on a diverse range of topics from Sri Lankan history, through Australian politics to Aboriginal history, his major work being a life of the indigenous leader, Musquito. The University recognized his accomplishments with its highest award, the University Medal, just before his death.
Mike was a larger than life character. It was my privilege to be his friend and colleague. This website is an enduring tribute to him.
